Looks Like Paint, Performs Like PPF

The Future Of Paint Protection Film Is Here To Stay. Coloured PPF is quickly becoming the most sought-after service we offer through ABE Protect Plus and the shop has been buzzing with new and exciting applications. Think of it as the ultimate hybrid solution:

Looks Like Paint: The increased thickness (over vinyl wrap) gives it a rich, paint-like appearance with deep gloss finishes and no texture (orange peel).

Performs Like PPF: It shields your car from scratches, chips, and the elements while maintaining its flawless look. Micro scratches on the film are able to self-heal and in the event you want to return the car to its original factory paint, it's all completely reversible.

Arguably, it’s even better than paint because it offers the best of both worlds.

In just over a year of offering this service, we've found multiple use cases:

1. Refinishing Damaged Paint

Instead of repainting a car with damaged paint you can simply find the coloured PPF equivalent in colour and simply install that over top to achieve a perfect finish along with all the benefits of PPF: self healing scratches, resistant to rock chips, etc. See it in action with two of our recently completed projects, this Mercedes SL65 & Camaro ZL1:

2. Colour Change With Protection

And the most common reason for Coloured PPF, protecting your paint with colour change. At the start of 2024, we were limited to Matte Black & Gloss Black, but coming to the end of the year we now have a wide array of options including even Paint-To-Sample colours from Porsche. Check out this project where we turned a "Chalk" 911 to "Signal Yellow":

There's Only One Caveat.

The install must be perfect. Unlike vinyl wraps or standard gloss PPF, the quality of a Coloured PPF job is far more obvious.

Vinyl wraps are thin and stretch easily around edges, making flaws less noticeable. Gloss PPF can sometimes leave exposed edges that most people won’t catch.

With Coloured PPF, especially when applying a dark shade over a lighter base, every detail counts. A poor install will show, which is why we go above and beyond to ensure perfection. Our process is thorough and includes disassembly, removing the doors to wrap door jambs/sills and any other parts needed to wrap inside every edge. Leaving no trace of the original colour and zero visible edges or seams.
